CLAYTON SPANGENBERGCAPE CANAVERAL Clayton William Spangenberg, 92, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, Sep tember 19, 2005. He was born in Bangor, PA on July 24, 1913. Clayton was the third of six children. He graduated from Bang r High School and took a job driving a fuel truck to help support the family after his fathers death. When he was 27 he left home to go to Trenton, NJ to study aircraft engines. After earning his A&E License he took a job with the government and was sent to the Air Force base in the Panama Canal Zone and remained there until they closed down operations. Back in the states, he worked at various Air Force bases until locating in Philadelphia at the Eastern Air Procurement District. He met his wife while in Phil adelphia. In 1959 he transferred to Florida and married Anna in 1960. At the Cape he worked on the Gemini and Apollo missiles. He retired in 1970 after 28 years of work with the Air Force Civil Service Branch. Mr. Spangenberg had a charming personality to all he met. For many years he owned and managed a small apartment complex. He was a do-it-your self person that enjoyed working on projects outside and around the house. He was a baseball fan and also spent much time reading. Survivors include his wife, Anna, of 45 years; a step-son, J. Lawrence Nafziger of Chesapeake, VA; a step-daughter, Janet N. Howard of Gainesville, FL; a sister, Doris Pritchard of Easton, PA; a sister-in-law, Betty Spangenberg of Deland, FL; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection on Sunday, September 25, 2005, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 525 Minuteman Causeway, Cocoa Beach, FL 32931 or to Wues thoff Brevard Hospice, North Branch, 8060 Spyglass Hill Road, Viera, FL 32940.
