Arthur E. Were, 89, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2007. Born in Albany, New York on April 5, 1917, Art graduated from Albany Academy and Yale University. He was a faithful member of the Riverside Presbyterian Church in Cocoa Beach.

An electrical engineer, Art had a lengthy career with General Electric and also worked for Planning Research Corp., at Kennedy Space Center.

Art enjoyed sailing and participated in numerous regattas and adventurous sailing trips throughout the Northeast and Florida. He also loved to sing and play the guitar and harmonica. He was a long time member of the Martin Andersen Senior Center Chorus in Rockledge. His local social activities also included being a member and leader of the Get Up and Go Singles Club where his event planning and photography delighted members for over 15 years.

Art was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Arthur E. Were, Sr. and mother, Agnes Streibert Were; brother, Theodore Were; and sister Edna Schrader Dyer. He is survived by his dear sister, Elizabeth Henk of Delmar, NY; nieces, Barbara Lamontagne, Elaine Person, Peggy Were, and Nancy Hendricks; nephews, Theodore Were and John Henk; and sister-in-law, Jean Denson.
