Ralph Uhrmacher, 98, of Red Bank died Monday, March 26, 2007, at his home. Services are at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the BloomfieldCooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean Township, with interment to follow at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. Shiva is at the family home in Little Silver through Thursday evening.

Born in New York, Mr. Uhrmacher lived in Monroe Township for 15 years before moving to Red Bank nine years ago. He received his masters in chemical engineering from M.I.T. A chemical engineer, his first job was at a distillery in Kentucky, he then worked in the oil and gasoline industry in Texas. Mr. Uhrmacher also worked at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

He was an avid golfer and tennis player. He was an Arkansas State Champion in doubles tennis and at one time a scratch golfer. In the 1930s, Ralph and his father were responsible for bringing a number of relatives to the United States from Europe, prior to the Nazi invasion.

Mr. Uhrmacher was predeceased by his wife, Anita, in 1997. He is survived by his son, John Carl Uhrmacher and daughter-in-law, Barbara Pollack, of Columbia, Md.; his daughter, The Honorable Bette Uhrmacher and son-in-law, Martin Gale, of Little Silver; his sister, Dorothy Uhrmacher of Denver, Colo., and five grandchildren, Jessica and Dana Gale, Mark and his wife, Elizabeth Uhrmacher, Andrew and Benjamin Uhrmacher. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimers Foundation.
