VERNON C. HENRY MERRITT ISLAND Deacon Vernon C. Henry, 77, of Merritt Island passed away on Holy Thursday, April 5, 2007, peacefully at home, surrounded by family. He lived life by his motto, Let your life speak for you. Vernon served in the US Navy during the Korean War. A resident of Brevard County for 35 years, he worked for Pan Am and EG&G before retiring in 1995. An ordained Deacon and Chaplain for the Orlando Diocese, he served Our Saviours Catholic Church, Cocoa Beach and the Port Canaveral Seafarers. In his passing he leaves his beloved Marlene, wife of 55 years; daughter, Charlene Hamant, Lake Jackson, TX; sons, David and Ella Henry, Merritt Island, Robert and Ellen Henry, Cocoa Beach; sister, Shirley and Robert Zillig, Cocoa; mother in law, Mary and Fred Brower, NY; grandchildren, Doug, Wade, and Keith Ham ant, Ralph, Billy, Alice, and Pam Henry, Jason Corbett, Joshua, Wesley, and Rebecca Henry; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A celebratory funeral Mass will be held at Our Saviours Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at 1:30 p.m., followed by a reception in the church hall. Vernon will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Vernons name to Our Saviours Catholic building fund and to the Brevard County Professional Firefighters Union, whose trained personnel were an unending service to the Henry family.
