Buffkin, 74, a resident of Merritt Island for 46 years went to Heaven on Saturday, January 19, 2008, at Wuesthoff Brevard Hospice and Palliative Care in Rockledge, FL. Don was born in Eaton Park,FL on January 9, 1934 and was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dora Williford Buffkin and his sister, Louise Purvis. Don served his country in the Air Force in the mid 1950s, before starting a 41 year career in the space industry. Beginning in 1958, Don worked down-range for Pan American World Airways and then at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station for 20 years. He then spent another 21 years at Kennedy Space Center. He loved fresh water fishing, reading, growing flowers and watching old movies, which he collected on video/DVD. Don is survived by his wife of 45 years, Myra. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Dr. Betty Ahmed (Dr. Mohammed) and Merle English of Merritt Island; his brother-in-law, Ernest Purvis of Lakeland, FL; his nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly include Michael (Mary) Purvis and family, Tina Purvis and family, Jesse English (Julie) and family, Debby Bouton (Dave) and family, Kelsie North (John) and family, Emily (Jim) Dickinson and family, Michele Sligh and son and George English. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, January 24th, with services following at 11 a.m, at Wylie Baxley Merritt Island Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge.
