STAFFORD CARTER, Sr. TITUSVILLE

Stafford C. Carter, Sr., 86, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Mayo, Florida and was the youngest of six children.

Stafford was a veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theater of operation in the Army Anti-Aircraft Artillery. In Gainesville, FL he was a swimmer and lifeguard at various pools and springs. He then married Lucille Lagana Carter and moved to Titusville in the 60s where he worked for Cowart and Carter. Stafford then held several positions at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and Kennedy Space Center until he retired in the 1980s. He enjoyed playing pool at the Senior Citizen Center, reading, crossword puzzles, and playing cards.

Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife Lucy. He is survived by his son, Chip (Stafford C. Carter, Jr.) of Titusville; daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Bruce Gustafson of Tenneesse; and two grandchildren, Sarah and Mark Gustafson, also of Tenneesse.

A memorial service will be held at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home, Cocoa, FL, on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Merritt Island Wildlife Association, P.O. Box 2683, Titusville, FL 32780, Attention: Sandy Larson. Donations should be accompanied by a letter indicating that they are in memory of Stafford C. Carter, Sr.
