ROBERT KELLENBERGER, WEST MELBOURNE

Retired Major Robert Pershing Kellenberger of Greenwood Village, West Melbourne, FL, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2008 in Atlanta, GA.

He leaves behind his spouse, Mathilde Kellenberger; and three sons, one son who is deceased, and two daughters: Robert Parrish Kellenberger of Tampa, FL, Curtis Brian Kellenberger of Wilmington, NC, Bryan Kellenberger (deceased), Kevin Bertrand Kellenberger of Washington, D.C., Carol Diane Schoff of Parrish, FL and Jan Elizabeth Leda of Ellenton, FL. In addition, Robert leaves behind five step-children, Steve Leger, Bruce Leger, Russell Leger, Ilene Tate; and, Terry Mallory. There are also 18 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren.

Born in Hanover, PA, Robert was a retired Air Force Major (15th Air Force, 483th Bomb Group) who flew B-17 missions in Italy and Germany during World War II. His military career spanned 20+ years - from 1942 to1963 - and in addition to Europe, he served in Korea and tested/ perfected weapons systems, that would later be used in Vietnam, in Test Ops out of Eglin AFB, FL. He had said that the Eglin AFB flying assignment was his most fulfilling.

After retiring from the Air Force, Robert served Americas space program through the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and Space Shuttle programs.
