CHARLES SCHERFF, MERRITT ISLAND

Charles Robert Scherff passed away Thursday, September 25, 2008 at Cape Canaveral Hospi tal. He was born on April 8, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY. He grew up in Huntington, Long Island, NY.

Charles spent three years in the Marine Corps serving in Korea. He was always proud to have been a Marine. He worked for Grumman Aircraft on Long Island and came to Merritt Island in 1967. After the Apollo program was over he worked in the insurance business.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy; five children, Mary Engasser (David), Robert (Sheila), James (Eileen), David (Michelle), and Susan Thomas (Michael); brother-in-law, Jack McGinn (Gail); sister-in-law, Eleanor Scherff; two nieces, five nephews and 11 grandchildren. Charles was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Meta Scherff; brother, Henry Scherff; sister, Elise Scherff; and nephew, Peter Scherff.

Calling hours will be from 6 - 8 p.m. on Monday, September 29th at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home, 1360 N. Courtney Pkwy, Merritt Island. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday, September 30th at 10:00 a.m. at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 1940 N. Courtney Pkwy, Merritt Island.

Entombment will follow at Florida Memorial Gardens.
