WILLIAM WOHLFORTH, TITUSVILLE

William A. Wohlforth, 91, a retired X-ray certified welding technician at Kennedy Space Center, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at his residence. Mr. Wohlforth was born in Hartford, Ct. He came to Brevard County in 1959, from Buffalo, NY.

He worked with NASA Engineers on the research and development program to establish procedures and specifications, for the manual and automatic pipe welding of special metals needed for the transfer of the (-400 degree fuel) used in the launching of manned space flights. He also participated in the unmanned, "Atlas/Agena Ranger" flights to the moon from Cape Canaveral launch sites. The unmanned "Ranger" was the first earth space missile to land on the moon. Mr. Wohlforth also worked on the Pioneer, Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs. He received many awards during his thirty year career.

No calling hours are scheduled. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 21st, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home. North Brevard Funeral Home in Titusville is in charge of arrangements.
