George Fischer - Titusville

George K. Fischer, 86, died Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Parrish Medical Center.

He was a retired NASA engineer at Kennedy Space Center, beginning his career as a research engineer in the aerospace industry. He was most proud of his work in high speed bearings, with multiple papers and patents to his credit.

He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was very active in the community as a Boy Scout leader and member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a naval veteran of World War II and a 32nd degree Mason.

George is survived by his wife, Catherine Hopkins Fischer of Titusville; children, Randy Fischer (Hannah) of Gainesville, John Fischer (Deede) of Miami, Patricia Durrett (Jim) of Atlanta, GA, and James Fischer (Holly) of Colchester, CT; grandchildren, Allison, James, Stephen, Julie, Ryan, Catherine, and Colin; brother, Edward Fischer of Annapolis, MD; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Andrew and his nephew, Richard Fischer. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. ,Thursday, June 18, 2009 at North Brevard Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2009 at St. Teresa Catholic Church.
