![]() LTC. KENNETH GRINE - SATELLITE BEACH Ret. Lt. Colonel USAF, Kenneth Eugene Grine of Satellite Beach entered into rest Wednesday, January 14, 2009. Ken was born on April 12, 1921 in Floreffe, PA. and graduated from high school at Elizabeth, PA. in 1939. He was attending California State Teachers College, California, PA., when he was called to active duty for World War II and began his long career in the US Air Force. Lt. Col. Kenneth E. (Ken) Grine was assigned to the Air Force Missile Test Center, Patrick AFB, FL, as Chief, Public Relations Branch Office of Information, in November 1957, after four years at Headquarters Air Research and Development Command in Baltimore. Here he became involved in the missile program, and in 1956 selected the heraldic names for the U.S. Air Forces Atlas, Thor and Titan missiles. During his assignment at the then Atlantic Missile Range, he was instrumental in "opening" Cape Canaveral to the news media. In April 1961, Colonel Grine was honored by the Aviation/Space Writers Association to be the first military public relations person to be presented the AWA Public Relations Trophy. Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1962, he was employed by the Missile and Space Systems Division of Douglas Aircraft Company (later McDonnell- Douglas) as Public Relations representative at Cape Canaveral. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara W. Grine of Satellite Beach; nephew, The Honorable David E. (Karen) Grine of Bellefonte, PA; niece, Barbara (Stanley) Sheaffer of Deland, FL; brother-in-law, Henry M. (Jerry) Waddell of Cocoa Beach, FL; and sister-in- law, Mrs. Burnett E. Grine of Stuart, FL. Ken was preceded in death by his stepson, Charles. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 18, 2009 from 4 to 6 p.m., at Florida Memorial Funeral Home, 5950 US Highway 1, Rockledge, FL. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 19, 2009 at 10 a.m., at Holy Apostles Episcopal Church, Satellite Beach, FL.
