Richard W. Bivans, Titusville

Richard W. Bivans, 80, of Titusville, FL, died Thursday, December 10, 2009 at home.

After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelors degree in electrical engineering. He joined NASA during the early years of the space program and assisted with the development of the downrange tracking system and ground telemetry systems at Kennedy Space Center. He retired from NASA after over 30 years of service.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoor sportsman.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen; son, Richard (Jane); daughter, Carolyn Hudman (William); son, Roger (Sarah); grandchildren, Elizabeth and Kenneth; and sister, Lois Staggs. He was predeceased by his parents and an older brother and sister.
