Donald Gilroy, Cocoa Donald Gilroy, 83,

passed quietly on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Cape Canaveral Hospital, in the company of his family and friends. He was born in Ballston Spa, NY on September 10, 1926. He has been a resident of Brevard County since 1958.

Donald worked as a Pad Safety Supervisor for Pan American and went on to become a Long Range Planner. He joined the Merritt Island Volunteer Fire Department in 1958 and later served as Volunteer Fire Chief for many years, then went on to serve as District Fire Chief of Brevard County. He also served as Civil Defense Coordinator until he retired in 1985.

He was an active member and served as commander of the American Legion Post 2010.

Donald is survived by his five children, daughters, Donna Angelini, Ann Ridgeway, Connie Roof, and Sandy Tucker; son, Gary Gilroy; grandchildren, Mark Gilroy, Shawn Galvin, Kevin Volland, Kyle, Cory and Michelle Tucker, and Nick Gilroy; five great-grandchildren; nephew, Mike (Shelia) Gerrard; and niece, Patrica Cudmore.
