Gary E. Willis Moneta, Virginia

Gary E. Willis, 71, of Moneta, VA passed away Sunday, August 16, 2009 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. He was a devoted husband and wonderful father and uncle. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Helen Willis of Eliza bethton, TN.

He is survived by his loving wife Gloria and son, Ryan; sister, Judy (Earl) Shelton of Asheville, NC; brother, Roger (Nancy) Willis of Kernersville, NC; nieces, Andrea Shelton and Lynda Lynn; nephews, Doug and Paul Lynn; great nephew, Joey Lynn and great niece, Morgan Lynn

He worked for RCA at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida during the 1960s. After graduating from the University of Tennessee, he moved to North Carolina. He worked for AT&T many years and eventually retired from General Dynamics in 1997. Gary enjoyed water sports, building and racing power boats, and was an avid University of Tennessee fan. He also was a member and past president of the Exchange Club in Kernersville, NC.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at the Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home in Kernersville, NC, followed by a Military Honor. The family will also receive friends Thursday, August 20, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Tetricks Funeral Home in Elizabethton, TN, followed by a memorial service.
