ARTHUR M. BALLARDMELBOURNE Arthur Mitchell Ballard, 87, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2004 with family by his side at Wuestoff Medical Center in Rockledge, Fla. Arthur was born in Falmouth, Virginia on July 23, 1917, to Dewey and Nellie Ballard. He retired from Ironworkers Local Union #5 of Oxon Hill, Md. He also was a member of the International Association of Bridge Structural and Ornamen tal Iron Workers. Art was responsible for setting the new columns of the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. He worked on several other prominent structures around that city. He moved with his family to Florida in 1963 to accept a position as a foreman on the contstruction of the Vertical Assembly Building (VAB) in Cape Canaveral, Florida. He is survived by his children, Marita Ketchen Bussard (Warren), of Columbia, S.C., Gerald Michael Ballard (Patsy) of Augusta, Ga., Sally Ballard Hill (Ken) of Indian Harbour Beach, Fla., and Kay Ballard Taraschi (Peter), of Indialantic, Fla.; twelve grandchildren, Thomas, Charles, Frank, Janet, Becky, Michael, Matthew, Michael Ashton, Nicholas, Bianca, Sergio and Scarlett; and great grandchildren, Samantha, Ashley, Courtney, Matthew Der ek, Dalton, Alex and Noah. He is also survived by his sisters, Gaynelle Rose (Joe) of Falmouth, Va. and Doris Curtis (Ray) of Stafford Pt., Va.; and his brother, Sidney Ballard (Janice) of Falmouth, Va. Arthur is predeceased by his sister, Margaret Edwards. Arthur's strength and courage will be a legacy for all who knew and loved him. His special memorial service will be at a later date in his home state of Virginia. |
