FRIEL MERRITT ISLAND August L. Friel, formerly of Princeton, N.J., died Friday, March 12, 2004 at Cape Canaveral Hospital. Mr. Friel graduated from Princeton High School and held the pole vault record from 1930 until 1970. He attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated from Tusculum College, Greenville, Tenn., with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He was honorably discharged from the Navy after five years of dedicated service. He was formerly employed with RCA Laboratories, Princeton, N.J.; International Engineering Corp., Maplewood, N.J.; Bendix Launch Support Div., Kennedy Space Center, Fla.; Burns & Roe, Inc., Rocky Hill, N.J.; and Burroughs- Welcome, Greenville, N.C. Mr. Friel was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Lena Friel; a son, Robert Friel; and his wife, Violet T. Friel. He is survived by his wife, Doris C. Friel; a brother, Lawrence Friel (Nancy) of Lancaster, Ohio; a daughter, Barbara F. Sperrazza (Carl) of Mercerville, N.J.; a son, David A. Friel (Kathy) of Ewing, N.J.; four grandchildren, Eric Sperrazza of Melbourne, Fla., Jason Sperrazza (Cindy) of Robbinsville, N.J., and Timothy and Megan Friel of Ewing, N.J.; and three great- grandchildren, Angelo and Joseph Sperrazza of Melbourne, Fla., and Nicholas Sperrazza of Robbinsville, N.J. Friends may visit at the home of Mr. Friel on Tuesday, March 16th from 1 to 4 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held later in New Jersey. Arrangements are under the direction of Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home, Merritt Island. |
