Claude Mike Adair, 65, peacefully sailed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2004. He was at home and surrounded by his closest circle of family and friends. He was born in Charlotte, N.C. on May 5, 1939 and grew up in Greenville, S.C. He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Carolina and went to work for Lockheed Martin. He worked on the Polaris and Poseidon Missile Programs for 12 years before pursuing an exciting career as a photojournalist with his wife, Anne. Mike had a passion for wind surfing that he shared by teaching hundreds of children at the Hope Town Sailing Camp. He also enjoyed photography, motor sports and summers spent on their sailboat Snorkey in the Bahamas. He is survived by his soulmate and wife of 38 years, Anne; sisters, Pat Bothe and husband, Jim of Juliette, Ga., and Stephanie Vickery and husband, Dan of Jewett, Texas; nephews, James Bothe of Hoover, Ala., and David Bothe of Athens, Ga.; and his beloved lhasa apso, Grog. A service to celebrate Mikes life will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, August 16th, at the Veterans Memorial Center, 400 S. Sykes Creek Parkway, Merritt Island, Fla. In lieu of flowers, Anne requests donations be sent c/o The Mike Adair Hope Town Sailing Camp Fund, Wachovia Financial Center, 100 S. Sykes Creek Parkway, Merritt Island, FL 32952.
