DANIEL WALTON,
Jr. SATELLITE BEACH -- Daniel ''Dan'' P. Walton Jr. 71, passed away
quietly on Monday, September 22, 2003, at his home in Satellite Beach,
Fla. He was a loving husband to his wife of 46 years, Iva Beach Walton; a
loving father to his two children, Iva Marie Walton and Daniel Porter
Walton III and wife Donna; and was a loving granddaddy to his four
grandsons, Jonathan Daniel, Andrew Joseph, JasonMichael, and Matthew David
Walton. He was a loving brother to his sister, Bonnie Jean Dunning of
Virginia. Mr. Walton was born in Huntington, W.Va., on April 5, 1932. He
graduated from Marshall University in 1954 with a B.S. in Chemistry after
which he served two years in the Army Counter Intelligence Corp. He
married his wife, Iva Beach Snyder, on June 14, 1957 in Ft. Myers Beach,
Fla. He worked as a chemist on the west coast of Florida from 1957 to
1963. Mr. Walton was a Space Engineer at Kennedy Space Center from 1963 to
1997, when he retired. He was a pioneer in the space program from its
onset, working as an engineer on the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, LM, Space
Shuttle, and Titan programs. Some of his diverse engineering roles
included: recovery processing of space capsules (pictured in Gemini
capsule), control room monitoring, propellant loading/unloading, Lunar
Modulecontrol jet system, Shuttle APU system, and various payload
operations. Dan was known as aninventive, intelligent, interesting,
humorous, and fun loving person, who had a love for nature and animals.
His grandsons were the apple of his eye, and the love and energy he gave
to them will be remembered forever. Viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m.
Friday, September 26, 2003 at Florida Memorial Funeral Home in Rockledge.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2003 at Faith
Fellowship Church in Melbourne (259-7200). Reception will be held from 2
to 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Walton home in Satellite Beach.
