SMITH MELBOURNE -- Earl Harriman Smith, 66, aretired communications officer, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at his home in Melbourne. Earl was born in Warrenton, Va., and came to Brevard County in 1993. He worked for the United States Central Intelligence Agency for 28 years, and Rockwell International Corporation for eight years, and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Earl was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Choir in Rockledge. Earl
was a proud member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council
5561, in Warrenton, Va., past president of the Knights of Virginia
Assistance to the Retarded charity program, and a member of the Knights of
Columbus Council 6125 in Rockledge. Earl is survived by hisloving and
faithful wife of 44 years, Sue; daughters,Monica Smith of Tampa, Maureen
Kennedy Smith of McLean, Va., Marcelle Zilaitis of Indian Harbour Beach,
and Meghan Smith of Alexandria, Va.; and five precious grandchildren. He
is also survived by his brother Nelson of Belfair, Wash., and his family;
and his sister, Joyce Cockrell of Warrenton, Va., and her family. Earl had
an excellent voice and enjoyed singing in church choirs for many years and
in the Brevard Community Chorus. In his career, Earl and his family lived
in Singapore; Lima, Peru; New Delhi, India; Copenhagen, Denmark; San Jose,
Costa Rica; and Dallas, Texas. This warm and lovingfamily man with a
tremendous wit and sense of humor touched many people in his life and will
be greatly missed by all his family and his many friends. A rosary service
will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, at Florida Memorial Funeral Home.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Rockledge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
either St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund, or Knights of Columbus
Council 6125 in Rockledge. Arrangements by Florida Memorial Funeral Home
