QUILLEN TITUSVILLE Major Eugene K. Quillen, U.S. Army retired, passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2004, at age 81. Mr. Quillen was born on July 19, 1922 in Akron, Colorado to Edna Ruth Dalrymple Quillen and Edward Kenneth Quillen. Eugene spent most of his youth in Fort Morgan, Colo., and joined the 15th Infantry Regi ment of the Colorado National Guard in 1940, while still in high school. During World War II while serving in the U.S. Army, he took part in the Aleutian, Mar shall, Philippine and Ryukyu Campaigns. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, two Bronze Star Medals for Valor, a Purple Heart and numerous campaign medals. He remained in the Army and later was award two Army Commendation Medals. In 1953, Eugene served as a Counter Intelligence Officer spe cializing in counter espionage operations in Nuremberg, Ger many and as Operations Officer for Intelligence in Pammunjom, Korea. He also spent several years on the Staff and Faculty of the Army Intelligence School. Eugene retired in the rank of Major in 1963, and was employed by the Martin Marietta Corporations until his retirement in 1980 from the launch opera tions at Cape Canaveral, Fla. He was a charter and life member of the American Socie ty of Industrial Security, a life member of NRA, and a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. Mr. Quillen is survived by two brothers, Edward Quillen of Colorado and Howard Quillen of Texas and a sister, Jo Ann Fay of Hays, Kansas. No local services are sched uled. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. North Brevard Funeral Home in Titusville is in charge of arrangements. |
