FRANCIS ''FRANK'' BYRNE
COCOA BEACH -- Francis ''Frank'' Byrne, 66, a retired NASA Electrical Engineer, died Friday, October 20, 2000, at Wuesthoff Hospital in Rockledge. Mr. Byrne was born inYonkers, N.Y. He came to Brevard County as a G.I. assigned to the RedstoneArsenal out of Huntsville,Alabama in 1957. After serving two years in the Army, Mr. Byrne became a member of the Missile Firing Laboratory of the Army Ballistic Missile Agency which later became the NASA Launch Operations Center. During his career with NASA at the Kennedy Space Center, Mr. Byrne received several awards for his design contributions and leadership. He retired in 1994 as Director, Electronic Engineering. Mr. Byrne was a licensed Ham Radio Operator and a life member of the Indian River Amateur Radio Club. Survivors include his companion, Jerre Smith of Cocoa Beach; his mother, Emma Klovekorn of Merritt Island; his daughter, Inge Byrne of Cocoa Beach, his daughter and sonin-law, Kathy and Robert Mills; grandchildren, Tristan, Devin, and Avery Mills, all of Port St. John; step-son, ErikWhitehead and family of Austin, Texas; step-daughter, Tania Weisennegger and family of Lakeland, Fla.; and stepson Andy Barter and family of Rutland, Vt. Calling hours will be from5 to 7 p.m. Monday Oct. 23 at Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home in Cocoa Beach. Services will be held Tuesday, Oct.24 at 11:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Cocoa Beach. Burial will be at Brevard Memorial Park. Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home in Cocoa Beach is in charge of arrangements.
