Frank A. Kennedy, 80 died Monday, May 24, 2004 at his home in Cocoa Beach sur rounded by his family. Mr. Kennedy was born in Detroit, Mich., on March 6, 1924, the second child of Joseph and Florence Kennedy. After graduating from Catholic Central High School in Detroit, he took a job with the United States Engineering Department in Alaska pursuing a career as a carpenter.
In 1943, Mr. Kennedy enlisted with the US Army Corps of Engineers and was later as signed to the Third Army, 1301 Engineering Regiment. Mr. Kennedy saw action in Europe and the Pacific theaters. He was wounded in battle in Europe and was awarded the Purple Heart. Upon leaving the Army, Mr. Kennedy returned to Michigan where he put his skills to use in the construction industry. In 1957, he was transferred to Winter Park, Fla., as a project manager for The Austin Company. Attracted by the sun shine and opportunities in Florida, he moved his family to Cocoa Beach in 1958. In 1963, he founded Frank A. Kennedy, Inc., General Con tractors. For over forty years, Mr. Kennedys firm completed a variety of projects through out the State of Florida. Some of his most notable local projects are the Glass Bank in Cocoa Beach, the original Divine Mercy Catholic Church and School, Cape Canaveral Hospital, Merritt Island Public Library, the Crawler Way at LC-39, and numerous other facilities for NASA and the USAF. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia; children, Anne Kennedy Kreiger (Bruce), Orlando, Ralph Kennedy, Merritt Island, Joan Van Sickle (John), Cocoa, Steven Kennedy (Peggy), Merritt Island, Kevin Kennedy (Julie), Rockledge, and Carol Kennedy (Andrew), Chicago; and five grandchildren. His sisters, Patricia Dei, Troy, Mich., and Noreen Watza, Port Huron, Mich., also survive him. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., on Friday, May 28th, at Beckman- Williamson Funeral Home, Cocoa Beach and a Memorial Mass will be held at Our Sav iours Catholic Church, Cocoa Beach at 10:30 a.m., on Sat urday, May 29th. .In lieu of flowers, dona tions may be made to Birth right of Cocoa Beach and/or Wuesthoff Brevard Hospice, North Brevard Chapter.
