Frederick (Burke) Berckhemer, Sr., 69, of Melbourne, Fla., died at his residence on Thursday August 26, 2004. He was born February 2, 1935 in Ainsworth, Nebraska and had been a resident of Melbourne since 1957, moving here from Crestview, Fla. Burke was employed as an air conditioning mechanic for Kennedy Space Center and Lockheed-Martin for 30 years prior to retirement. He was a veteran serving with the U.S. Air Force. A life long Scouter (BSA), he was a Scoutmaster and Order of the Arrow advisor. Burke was the recipient of numerous honors in scouting such as the Silver Beaver award and District Merit Award. Members of his family include his wife of 43 years, Nancy Berckhemer of Melbourne; his sons, Malcolm and wife Penny of Palm Bay and Curt and wife Brenda of West Melbourne; grandchildren, Megan, Lauren and James; and a sister, Dorothy Wales of South Dakota. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, August 30, 2004 at Fountainhead Memorial Funeral in Palm Bay. Inurnment will be at Fountain head Memorial Park. The family requests no flowers, and donations may be made in his memory to your favorite charity.
