HAROLD KIDD
TITUSVILLE -- Harold Lee Kidd, 69, died Saturday, January 13, 2001,at home, from pulmonary fibrosis. He was born on March 7, 1931 in Ada, Okla., to Harold N. and Leola Kidd. He retired in 1993 after 33 years with Martin Marietta at the Cape, as a senior systems engineer, having moved to Titusville in 1958. During his later years with Martin, he was twice honored with the Gold Medallion ''Man of the Year'' award. In the mid 70's, Mr. Kidd was appointed to the Planning and Zoning Board of Titusville. Mr. Kidd was a member of Westside Baptist Church, where he had taught Sunday School for many years, and served as a Deacon. On December 24, 1950, he married Betty Griffith in Ada, Okla. He was called back to active service in the USMC and served in Korea for 18 months, where he was captured as a P.O.W., and escaped from his captors as they marched prisoners back to China. He returned to active duty, later returning to the states in 1952. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Betty; mother, Leola Kidd of Ada, Okla.; sons,Michael and wife, Becky, of Port St. John, and Kristopher and wife, Sara, of Titusville; daughters, Melissa Turner and husband, Bobby, of Titusville, and Kelly Lee Steege and husband, Brian, of San Diego, Calif.; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; adopted son, Steve James and wife, Maureen, of Melbourne; brother, Clyde of Sulpher, Okla.; and sisters, Virginia Love of Frisco, Texas and Helen Choate of Monkey Island, Okla. Memorial services will be held Thursday, January 18th, at 7 p.m. at Westside Baptist Church in Titusville. North Brevard Funeral Home in Titusville is in charge of arrangements.
