HORST POEHLERMELBOURNE Dr. Horst A. Poehler died Friday, October 3, 2003 at the age of 85. Dr. Poehler graduated from Columbia University with a Ph. D. in Physics and was a member of the Lutheran Church of Satellite Beach. He was a U.S. citizen born in Gera, Germany on October 9, 1917. He supported the U.S. defense effort during World War II in development of radar and gyroscopic navigation instrumen tation at General Precision Laboratories in Westchester, N.Y. Later, he was employed as Physicist supporting the Space Program in Florida at Patrick AFB and the Cape from 1957 until his retirement in 1979. His accom plishments included numerous scientific advancements and technical publications. Dr. Poehler was an active member of the IEEE and served as a past Chairman of the local chapter.He made environmental preservation and public safety a top priority during his lifelong career. He was an accomplished pianist and spent much of his free time composing piano music. He also studied and mastered several foreign languages. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rosa Lione Poehler of Melbourne, and his only son, Paul L. Poehler and wife Patrici aof Melbourne. Funeral arrangements were handled by Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home and interment was in Georgiana Cemetery on Merritt Island. |
