JAMES BENNETTMERRITT ISLAND James M. Ben nett, 81, retired engineer at Kennedy Space Center, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on Saturday, August 28, 2004 at Cape Canaver al Hospital. Jim was born on April 1, 1923 to Lee and Rosa Bennett in Louisville, Kentucky. He served as a Tech Sergeant in the Army Air Corps and was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. In addition, Jim was an ex- Prisoner of War and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Air Medal for his distinguished military service. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Association of Former POWs in Romania, and the Eagles Club. Jim is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Larry, Darrell, Carl, and Alan; daughters, Theresa Bennett, Marian Gillan, Sharon Ledbetter, and Anita Smith; brother, Robert Bennett and sister, Betty Welch; 18 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren. The viewing will be held on Monday, August 30, 2004 from 8-9 p.m. Services will follow on Tuesday, August 31st at 1 p.m. at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home on Merritt Island. Internment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. |
