JAMES COOPER
SATELLITE BEACH -- James M. Cooper, 80, died Sunday, January 7, 2001, at Holmes Regional Medical Center. He had been a systems engineer for G.E. for 42years, retiring to Satellite Beach in 1984. During World War II, he served as a G.E. Technical Representative aboard ships supervising the installation and maintenance of radar, as well as instructing Naval personnel in its use. He received the Apolloneer Award from G.E., as well as a letter of Commendation from NASA in recognition of his work on the Apollo Program. His first patent was for an autopilot electronics which was installed in a V-2 rocket and launched at White Sands, New Mexico. He subsequently received five more patents, all dealing with aerospace. However, he always felt that his greatest accomplishments were his five children. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Frances of Satellite Beach; children, Kathleen of Houston, Texas, Michael of Ocala, Fla., Mary Frances of Louisville, Ky., Douglas of Willington, Conn., and Robert of New Hartford, N.Y.; five grandchildren; as well as two sisters and one brother in Iowa. Viewing and services willbe private. Arrangements entrusted to South Brevard Funeral Home in Melbourne.
