BOYLE SATELLITE BEACH John H. Hal Boyle, USAF Col. (ret.), died Thursday, August 5, 2004. Born August 4, 1918 in Philadelphia Penn., Mr. Boyle moved to Brevard County in 1966. As a young man, he worked for several years in the late 1930s in New York Citys Wall Street Financial District.
Mr. Boyle enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 4, 1941 and was shipped immediately to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. He was on duty at Hickam Field (next to Pearl Harbor) on December 7, 1941 when the Japanese attacked Oahu. Shortly thereafter he retired as a 1st Sergeant to receive a 2nd Lieutenant commission in the Army Air Corps. Of the 30 years he served in the Air Force, 13 were spent in over seas assignments (five in England, four in Germany, two in the Caribbean and South America Area, and two in the Pacific area). During his Air Force Career he served two tours at HQS USAF in Washington, D.C. and also completed a Special Assigment in Vietnam. His final duty assignment was Chief of Staff; Air Force Eastern Test Range at Patrick Air Force Base during the Gemini and Apollo programs to put man on the moon. He retied in 1971 as a Colonel. Shortly thereafter, he became Administrator of Wuesthoff Hospital in Rockledge. He served in this Capacity as its Chief Operat ing Officer for 11 years, retiring in 1982. He attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Virginia, two Masters Degrees from the University of Southern California, and attended Loyola University Law School in Los Angeles, Calif., while he was the Professor of their Air Science Department. Among his military decorations are the Legion of Merit, and the Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters. He married Abbie Currier of Philadelphia in September 1945 and they have two children, Lynda Boyle Gunter and John Boyle, Jr., and his spouse, Anita; a grandson, John S. Gunter, IV; brother, James Walter Boyle and his spouse, Evelyn, of Ocala, Fla. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, August 9th at Beach Funeral Home, Indian Harbour Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Indialantic.
