JOHN MESSNERCOCOA BEACH John H. Messner, 83, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2004 at home. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and lived in Brevard County since 1962. A World War II Veteran who participated in the D-Day Invasion of Normandy, Battle of the Bulge and the Liberation of Paris, he received four Bronze Stars.
John was employed by General Motors in Pittsburgh before moving to Florida in 1962 to join the Space Program at Cape Canaveral. He worked for Pan American as a Machine Shop Foreman on the Mercury, Gemini and other Air Force Programs. John was instrumental in the creation of the Air Force Space Museum on the Cape. He also worked at Dayron in Orlando until 1988 when he joined his wife in the operation of their restaurant, The Tea Room in Cape Canaveral. John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joy; and daugh ters, Janet West and Jackie Hitzig; and sister Mary Jayne Fenton. His Memorial Service will be held at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 4 Church Street, in Cocoa, FL at 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday, May 18, 2004.
