MOORE CAPE CANAVERAL John K. Moore, a free spirit, 69, of Cape Canaveral, Fla., died Friday, February 27, 2004, at Hospice by the Sea. A native of Lake Worth, he trained as an electronics techni cian in the U.S. Navy and later was a pioneer in Floridas Space Program. He was involved in moon shots, helped put John Glenn in orbit, and worked on communication satellites and the Atlas Missile. In earlier years, he competed in stock car racing at the old Palm Beach Speedway and at Daytona Beach, racing on the beach. Johns avocation was fishing, he owned a commercial fishing boat and spent many happy hours angling off of Cape Canaveral. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Marcella (Cece) Chamberlain (Donald); grand children, John, Teresa and David Chamberlain; great- grandchildren, Chase and Devin; and three sisters, Helen (Harold) Gilmore, Linda Moore, both of Jacksonville, and Cynthia Moore of Ashville, N.C. The family will receive friends at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 4th, at the Dorsey E. Earl Smith Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 3041 Kirk Road at 10th Avenue in Lake Worth. The service will follow at 3 p.m., with the Reverend Lynn Batista, Calvary United Methodist Church, Lake Worth, officiating. In lieu of flowers, his family respectfully requests donations be made in his name to Hospice by the Sea, 1531 W. Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, FL 33486. |
