ZYLA PORT ST. JOHN -- Karol C. (Chuck) Zyla, 78, died Wednesday, December 20, 2000, at Vencor Hospital in Green Cove Springs, Fla. Chuck was born in Detroit, Mich., January 28, 1922 and moved to Port St. John in 1983. He graduated from Lawrence Institute of Technology in Detroit with a B.S. inMechanical Engineering. Chuck
was a pilot in the Army Air Force during World War II,stationed in Italy.
He was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Titusville, and the
Knights of Columbus, both in Titusville. He was also a member of the
Florida Sports Fishing Association and the Florida FlyFishing Association.
He was a registered professional engineer in the State of Michigan. His
greatest loves were tennis, fishing and his boat. Chuck had worked in New
Orleans, La., and Detroit, Mich., for Chrysler Corporation and for the
USBI at Kennedy Space Center, retiring after the Challenger disaster. He
is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sally of Port St. John; son, James
Gayley Zyla of Huntington Woods, Mich.; daughters, Karen Sue Wend of Mt.
Vernon, Wash., and Emily Louise Zyla of Sparta, Mich.; four grandchildren;
three sisters, EugeniaRomanick, Helen Mac, andCecilia Macek, all of Allen
Park, Mich.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at St.
Teresa's Catholic Churchin Titusville on Tuesday,December 26, at 2 p.m. In
lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Space Coast
Sport Fishing Foundation, P.O. Box 320654, Cocoa Beach, FL 32932 attn:
Kids Fishing Clinic. Arrangements are being made by Brevard Memorial
Funeral Home, 320 Spring Street, Cocoa, FL 32927.
