Kathryn Louise Harter, who
served as a manager in the space program at Cape
Canaveral, Fla., passed away Friday, March 18, 2005, at
her home in San Luis Obispo with her family at her
side.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2
p.m. on Sunday, April 10, at the Unitarian Society, 1535
Santa Barbara Street, Santa Barbara,
Calif.
Kathryn was born in Santa Barbara, on Jan.
10, 1946 to Albert and Dora Harter. She graduated form
Mission High School in San Luis Obispo in 1963 and from
Immaculate Heart College in Hollywood in 1966. After
several years teaching English literature in the Los
Angeles are, she earned a master's degree in
communication arts at Loyola, now Loyola Marymount,
University. She continued her post-graduate studies in
the doctoral dramatic arts program at U.C. Santa Barbara
and directed the well-received musical, "A Minor
Miracle", at the Lobero Theater in 1977.
After
completing a professional management course, she worked
for Lockheed Corporation at Vandenberg Air Force Base as
a technical reports specialist and a program planning
coordinator. She later transferred to the space program
in Fla., where she was a project manager for United
Space Alliance, a joint venture between Boeing and
Lockheed.
Kathryn will forever be remembered for
her quick wit, sense of humor and gererous
spirit.
Kathryn is survived by her mother, Dora
Harter; sister, Becky Murphy and husband, Chuck, sister,
Dolores Harter, and her nephew, Lucas
Calderin.
