WILLIAMS COCOA Mavis J. Williams, 79, passed away Tuesday April 27, 2004, at Wuesthoff Hospital in Rock ledge, Fla. Mrs. Williams was born in Riverview, Alabama on December 6, 1927 and came to Brevard County from Huntsville with a group of the original NASA Team families that established the Kennedy Space Center. Mrs. Williams was a lifelong activist in Cocoa and Brevard County politics. She served as a NASA escort and facility tour representative for foreign and domestic dignitaries during the early Manned Space Flight Program launches. She was a member of the King Street Baptist Church where she brightened every Christmas with her meticulous decorations and enthusiastically cared for her family, home and landscape. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady F. Williams and her son, James L. Williams. Mrs. Williams is survived by her son, Gregory K. Williams of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Desmond Beck of Smiths, Ala.; and three grandchildren. There are no calling hours scheduled. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 1, 2004, at the Wylie-Baxley Rock ledge Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge. |
