MIGUEL MARTINMERRITT ISLAND Miguel J. Mike Martin, 76, of Merritt Island, died Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at home with his family. Born in Rome, N.Y., Mike joined the Marines after high school. He later entered The College of Forestry at Syracuse University and also studied draftsmanship. Mike finished his active military career in the Air Force, serving in North Africa, England, France and Chanute AFB in Illinois as a Technical Instructor. Following his discharge from the military, Mike returned to Rome, N.Y., to work at Griffiss AFB, where he met his wife, Florence. Mike served 25 years as an AF Civil Servant, much of that time was spent working in Washington, D.C. In 1976 he took an early retirement to move to Merritt Island, Florida, indulging his lifelong love of the water. Mike was pleased to enjoy an exciting second career at Kennedy Space Center where he variously served as trainer to Space Shuttle Astronauts, IMAX Theatre operator and docent. Additionally Mike served as docent at the Air Force Space and Missile Museum at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and conducted tours for Public Affairs at Patrick AFB in Cocoa Beach. Mike loved the Space Program. A devoted husband, father, friend and neighbor, Mike cared about all whom he met. He is survived by his wife, Florence P. Martin; his mother, Therresa G. Martin; his children Mary Ellen (Hugh) Davis, Paul J. Martin, Catherine M. (Philip) Scruggs, and Peter J. (Frances) Martin; his grandchildren, Nicholas Martin Davis, Alexander J. Scruggs and Analise V. Scruggs; his beloved step- grandchildren; his siblings, Alfred J. Martin (Shari), Marguerite C. Mickie Martin; and sister-in-law, Mary P. Rullo. Services will be held at Divine Mercy Catholic Church on Merritt Island on Monday, October 11th. Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at 10 oclock in the morning, funeral services will follow at 11 oclock. Donations may be made to Divine Mercy Catholic School or Wuesthoff Brevard Hospice. Wylie-Baxley Merritt Island Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. |
