GAUGER COCOA BEACH Paul C. Gauger passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2004. Paul, age 89, was a retired facility project engineer for Design Engineering at Kennedy Space Center. He served 20 years with the Army Corps of Engineers and 14 years with NASA at KSC. Paul was commissioned by the Corps upon graduation from Louisiana State University where he was president of his fraternity, Delta Kappa Epsilon. During World War II he built military bases and housing throughout the United States. After the war, he worked in Central and South America with the Corps on mapping and geodesy projects. His military career took him to Guatemala, Panama, Korea, Okinawa, and Europe. His last assignment with the Corps placed him in Florida with the Jacksonville District. This involved him in the construction of Complexes 34 and 37 at the Cape and other facilities for the Air Force and NASA. He retired from the Army and came to work for NASA as a project engineer in the design and construction of facilities. He worked on Complexes 34 and 37 again, plus Complex 39s Pad B., the Unified S-Band Sta tion, and the development of the Visitor Information Center. Paul was awarded NASAs Exceptional Service Medal for his work as U.S. Bicentennial Project manager for facilities design and construction. After retirement, Paul assisted the Public Affairs Office during manned launches, briefing and escorting VIP groups and media. He was a speaker for the KSC speakers bureau. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Eva McIntyre, and Paul Charles Gauger; his brother, Daniel Gauger; and his sister, Elizabeth Gauger Breazeale. He is survived by his wife, June Sparks Gauger; his sons, Thomas F. and Richard C. Gauger; his daughter, Katherine Lindermyer; his grandchildren, David A. Stokes, Lynda Katherine Stokes, Elizabeth K. G. Gauger, and Paul C. Gauger; and five great-grandchildren. Paul was a life-long science fiction enthusiast, also he was an early builder of radio-co trolled model airplanes. He regretted not having lived long enough to have walked on the moon. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 3rd, at Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home in Cocoa Beach.
