RODNEY AVERY MERRITT ISLAND Rodney Mason Avery, 62 passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at Cape Canaveral Hos pital. Rodney was born on December 26, 1941 in Purvis, Miss. He graduated Salutatorian from Purvis High School. He went on to Mississippi State and graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering, and went to work for NASA at Kennedy Space Center. Rod worked on the Gemini, Space Lab, and Shuttle pro grams at NASA for 37 years and retired in January 2001. Rodney was a member of First Baptist Church of Merritt Island where he married his wife of 34 years, Carla. He is also survived by his son, Matthew Avery; his daughters, Megan Baran, Wendy Koessel, and Vera Avery; eight grandchildren, Sydney Avery, Candace, Kristin, Casey, Wyatt and Westin Koessel, and Joshua and Jessica Avery; his sisters, Linda Cimbora, Dannylu Avery and Mary Achee; and one brother David Avery. There will be no local services. Services will take place at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, June 23rd, at Hulett-Winsted Funeral Home in Purvis, Miss.
