Romey Albert Taylor, 70, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2004. He was born in Savannah, Ga., on January 24, 1934 and lived his life in Florida.
Romey was the C.E.O. of Southeast Pow er Corporation, formerly known as Mamba Engi neering Company of Titusville, Fla., until his retirement in December 1997. He was most proud of three projects he accomplished with his busi ness. One of the first electrical contractors for Walt Disney World with projects for them that spanned 20 years, con structed the Space Shuttle Runway Lighting project, and the first contractor to build a 500 kV transmission line across the Everglades for Florida Power & Light Company.
He was active in committees with the National Electrical Con tractors Associa tion and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Romey was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was active with Astro naut High School sports programs. He and his wife, Gloria, transported the cheer leaders for over a decade in the War Eagle Wagon, their personal R.V. He was known as the Morale Doctor on the sidelines of the football field for 30 years. He was awarded the Dr. Ben C. Storey Award in 1978 and was inducted into the Astronaut H.S. Hall of Fame in 2001. His leisure time was spent fishing for bass on the St. Johns River and for snook in Chokoloskee. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Gloria; three sons, Allen (Diane), Mark (Marcy), and Zane (Kimberley); grand children, Brent, Joshua, Allison, Jennifer, Stephanie, Ryan, Justin and Jarret. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 25th, from 5 to 7 p.m., at North Brevard Funeral Home. Serv ices will be held Thrusday, February 26th, at 10 a.m., at the First Christian Church on Jay Jay Road in Titusville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Romeys memory be made to the Electrical Lighting Fund of First Christian Church. North Brevard Funeral Home in Titusville is in charge of arrangements.
