SMITH MERRITT ISLAND -- Ronald J. ''POP'' Smith, 63, a 44 year
resident of Merritt Island passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2001, at
Florida Hospital in Orlando. Mr. Smith came to Merritt Island in 1956 with
his young bride Claudette, from Salisbury, North Carolina. At that time he
began his career as a maintenance carpenter for Pan Am World Services at
CCAS and ended it there as well as a maintenancesupervisor in October of
1998. Mr. Smith was a well recognized and respected leader of various
community support activities aimed towards the growth of children in this
area. He was a deacon at Orsino Baptist Church on MerrittIsland as well as
one of the primary committee members for children and youth activities.
Those that are proud to have loved and been loved by POP are his wife of
44 years, Claudette of Merritt Island, his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas
and Marla Smith of Howard City , Michigan, his daughter and
son-in-law,Susan and Rick Palmer of Merritt Island; his son and
daughter-in-law, Kevin and Laurie Smith of Merritt Island; his
grandchildren, Jason Palmer, Charity Martindale, Paige Palmer, Crystal
Fogarty, Alec Smith, and Taylor Smith; and his great-grandchildren, Brian
Martindale Jr., and Tyler Fogarty. A visitation service will be held on
Tuesday, January9th, from 6 to 8 p.m., at WylieBaxley Funeral Home
onMerritt Island. Services will be held on Wednesday, January 10th, at the
Orsino Baptist Church on Merritt Island, and final resting will be at
Florida Memorial Garden. |
