Roy Cliffton Pruitt, 89, died Wednesday, February 25, 2004, at Hunt ington Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Rock ledge, Fla. Roy came to Brevard County in 1957 from Seneca, S.C., where he was born. During his lifetime Roy was a loving husband, father, grand- father, and great-grandfather. He was a devoted Christian for over 70 years. His wife, Irene, passed away in 2002. At that time, they had been married for almost 69 years. Mr. Pruitt worked in a textile plant in Seneca, S.C., before and after his military service. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and was on Okinawa when the war ended. In 1957 he came to Brevard County as an electronic technician with RCA at Cape Canaveral. During the next 22 plus years while operating various Radar Systems for RCA, he supported virtually every significant launch program, including the various military launch vehicles (Atlas, Titan, Minuteman, etc.), the historical manned spaceflight Mercury and Gemini orbital flights and the Apollo Moon Landing Programs. He retired in May 1979. Mr. Pruitt was a past Deacon and an active member of King Street Baptist Church in Cocoa from 1958 until he became ill last year. He is survived by his sons Jerry of Cocoa and Ron of Orlando; one sister, Mildred Martin of Atlanta Ga.; six grand children; and four great-grand children. Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, February 28th, followed by services at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Brevard Memorial Funeral Home in Frontenac. Burial will be at Brevard Memorial Park.
