GRAY DICKERT, JR.PALM BAY Gray Ellesor Dickert, Jr., Professional Engineer, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2004. Gray, a native Floridian born in Miami, on September 22, 1925, gradu ated from Miami Sr. High School in 1943 and was a dedicated trombonist in the Marching Band. Gray was a veteran of the US Navy serving in World War II on the YMS Minesweeper #s 24 & 25 at the Anzio beachhead in Italy. He received the Purple Heart after surviving a combat mission in which his vessel was sunk. After his release from the Navy, Gray pursued his educa tion at the University of Florida and the University of Miami where he earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. After attending graduate studies at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Mich., he worked with the DOD at Redstone Arse nal in Huntsville, Ala., involved with the development of Nation al Defense Rocket Systems. Gray then was appointed as the 7th Coast Guard District Engi neer, being responsible for the lighthouses and navigational equipment throughout the Southeastern U.S. Upon federal retirement, he became a senior partner with HNGS Consulting Engineering Firm in Miami where he was involved in many projects locally and internationally, including major renovations at MIA, Bap tist Hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital, the Miami VA Hospital, Grove Isle, The Bakery Center and the Homestead NASCAR Raceway. He dearly loved his light houses and the spray of the sea and the sound of a good song. So here is my song for you, our beloved father, brother, and grandfather, Good night, dear prince...For thoust day is done...Dream dreams upon dreams...For tomorrow there is another day to be won. His brother, James A. Dickert; children, Donna L., Frank G., David J.; along with five grandchildren, survive Gray.
